Solana condemns attack on Italian barracks in Iraq

Brussels, Nov 12, IRNA -- Javier Solana, EU high representative for common foreign and security policy, condemned today the terror attack that killed and wounded several people at an Italian Carabinieri barracks in Nassiriya, Iraq, and expressed his solidarity with Italy. In a message to Franco Frattini, the Italian foreign minister and current president of the Council of the European Union, Solana expressed his sympathy and condolences to the Italian authorities and to the families of the victims. "I have learned of the terrible attack that struck the HQ of the Carabinieri in Nassiriya. I would like to extend to you and to the Italian government as well as to the Army command my profound sympathy for this tragedy that strikes the country. "My deepest condolences go the families of the victims of this horrendous attack," he said in a statement . NK/AH/210 End
