Grim week for casualties in Iraq, says Blair`s spokesman
IRNA
London, Nov 3, IRNA -- Prime Minister Tony Blair believes the past week has been a "particularly grim seven days" for casualties in Iraq, his official spokesman said Monday. But he insisted that the determination of the occupying Anglo- American coalition remained undiminished after a missile attack on a Chinook helicopter on Sunday killed 16 American troops in a series of bombings and attacks on US forces. "The Prime Minister totally condemned the attack yesterday. His thoughts are with the relatives and friends of those who died," Blair`s spokesman said. "This has been a particularly grim seven days in terms of casualties inside Iraq, for the coalition and the Iraqi people," he said at his daily briefing. But he insisted that the attacks, which he blamed on elements of Saddam Hussein`s regime and foreign terrorists, "shouldn`t be allowed to mask the progress on the ground in large parts of the country." The aim is to "test our resolve and to try and turn the clock back but at times like this we have to stay focused on what`s at stake, and the prize here," he said, adding: "Our resolve remains undiminished.
