  • BUSH/IRAQ VOA 24 Nov 2003 -- President Bush traveled to Colorado Monday to meet with some families of the more than 20 American soldiers from Fort Carson who have been killed in Iraq. There, he also delivered a strongly worded speech denouncing the "thugs" as he called them, who continue to stage attacks against American troops.

  • Iraq: Security Council establishes new committee to track Saddam-linked assets UN News Centre 24 Nov 2003 -- The United Nations Security Council decided unanimously today to establish a new committee to continue tracking the financial assets removed from Iraq by persons connected to Saddam Hussein.
  • U-N/IRAQ VOA 24 Nov 2003 -- Iraq's governing council has sent the U-N Security Council a timetable for elections leading to self-rule and general elections by 2005. From U-N headquarters, the Iraqis are also asking for another resolution recognizing a date for ending the U-S-led occupation.

Reconstruction Issues

  • Iraq: Despite Attacks, Police Urge U.S. Authorities To Give Them Greater Security Role RFE/RL 24 Nov 2003 -- Iraqi police officers say they will not be intimidated by a series of deadly attacks directed against them in recent days. Instead, they are urging the U.S.-led administration to give them more responsibility for introducing law and order in the country. They believe they can do so more quickly than U.S. forces -- and with the support of ordinary Iraqis.
  • Iraq: Key Council Members Suggest Afghan-Style Conference For Iraq RFE/RL 24 Nov 2003 -- Three key UN Security Council members have expressed support for holding an international conference to set the course for the political and economic reform process in Iraq.
