Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich, the only candidate at last night's
Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Iowa to call for bringing our troops home
from Iraq, today released the following statement:
"We've now lost over 400 American men and women in Iraq, and not
a one of those losses was justified. Not a single additional loss is acceptable.
Face the facts, Mr. President. You sent our troops there under false pretenses.
Bring them home now and turn control over to the United Nations. Neither
the world community nor the Iraqi people will support a U.S.-led occupation
or an Iraqi government created by a U.S. occupation. In the name of decency,
in the cause of democracy, and for the lives of our sons and daughters
in uniform and of our brothers and sisters in Iraq, end this disastrous
expedition today. Work with the United Nations to draw up a plan for the
UN to assume control of Iraq and control of the oil and the reconstruction
for the benefit not of Halliburton but of the Iraqi people. The United
Nations can facilitate the establishment of a stable and democratic Iraqi
government. We cannot. We are a destabilizing force in Iraq."
