Three differences over US draft resolution on Iraq remain-Fedotov
IRNA
Moscow, Oct 15, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- Differences on the US draft of a new UN Security Council resolution on Iraq remain, but they have now been reduced to two or three key points, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said. "We admit that some additional steps have been taken to accommodate the positions of Russia and other members of the UN Security Council. At the same time far from all of our proposed amendments have been properly taken into account." Fedotov said this in the first place concerned the role of the United Nations in the process of a political settlement in Iraq and the multi-national force mandate. "The discussions being held have helped reduce the differences to two or three key items. This is precisely the reason why the work to narrow differences must continue. In the current shape the draft resolution is not ripe for being put to the vote yet. Consultations must go on," he said. /AH/210 End
