Berlin views new Iraq resolution as `another step in right direction`
IRNA
Berlin, Oct 15, IRNA -- A German Foreign Ministry spokesman here Wednesday called the latest American-backed draft of a United Nations resolution on Iraq `another step in the right direction`. "It`s a renewed step in the right direction and we still hope very much that a consensus resolution could be agreed upon," Walter Lindner said at a press conference. "We are very much interested in a consensus resolution," the official stressed. Although Lindner added that more changes were needed in the latest Iraq draft, he did not give specifics on the required changes. Germany, France and Russia have repeatedly demanded a central political role of the UN in Iraq`s rebuilding process as well as a clear timetable for the transfer of power from the American occupiers to the Iraqi people. The US has been reluctant to give the UN more than a minimal authority in Iraq`s post-war reconstruction process. OT/AH/210 End
