Iran says UN should be given pivotal role in Iraq
IRNA
Tehran, Oct 6, IRNA -- Head of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Majlis Mohsen Mirdamadi said here on Monday that Tehran believes that the United Nations should be given the pivotal role in all affairs of Iraq and a broad-based government should assume the administration of the country. In a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Bundestag Foreign Policy Committee Folker Ruhe, Mirdamadi pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always respected the decisions of the Palestinians, and believes that the Qods-occupying regime has, by violating recent ceasefire, made regional conditions further complicated. As for Iran`s peaceful use of nuclear energy, Mirdamadi said the country considered peaceful use of nuclear energy as a right and believe that Governing Council of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should not turn it into a issue of prestige. He said Iran is ready to cooperate with countries possessing nuclear energy in the peaceful technical and scientific uses so as to relieve ongoing concerns. For his part, Ruhe said, "All countries are entitled to peaceful use of nuclear energy." He said European countries can have extensive technical cooperation with Iran within the framework of international regulations. He added that German political and parliamentary officials are keen to expand ties with Iran and are carefully following the country`s democratic developments. He highlighted Iran`s influential role in international and regional developments, calling for Iran`s active contribution to removal of regional disputes. 216/AH/210 End
