European Parliament wants more funding for Iraq
IRNA
Brussels, Oct 4, IRNA -- Members of the European Parliament want additional funding for Iraq of 500 million euros. The EP is to debate on Tuesday with the European Council on the final amount for funding for Iraq, said an EP announcement. The European Commission has pledged 200 million euros for reconstruction of Iraq up to the end of 2004. In its proposal the Commission has sought to observe a principle of equity: the amount envisaged for Iraq is comparable to the figure earmarked for Afghanistan which is to receive 1 billion euro over five years, or 200 million per year.
