  • UN panel on staff security leaves Baghdad UN News Centre 09 Oct 2003 -- The United Nations panel appointed by Secretary-General Kofi Annan to investigate security in Iraq in the aftermath of the terrorist bombing of UN headquarters in Baghdad has left the Iraqi capital, a UN spokesperson said today.

  • Iraq: Baghdad Wears The Face Of Normality As Killings, Crime Continue RFE/RL 09 Oct 2003 -- In the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, women and children are back on the streets, along with the patrols of Iraqi policemen. But appearances can be deceiving. American troops and Iraqi civilians are being killed almost every day. The UN is reducing its presence after two bombings killed more than 20 people, including its top envoy in the country. Other humanitarian agencies are following suit.

  • RUSSIA/GERMANY/IRAQ VOA 09 Oct 2003 -- Russian President Vladimir Putin says he still hopes agreement can be reached on a proposed U-N Security Council resolution on Iraq, before a donors conference later this month. Mr. Putin spoke after two days of talks with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
