India non-committal on troops to Iraq: Vajpayee
IRNA
New Delhi, Sept 16, IRNA -- Indian Premier Atal Bihari Vajpayee left for Turkey enroute to the UN on a 13-day visit Tuesday morning. Vajpayee told reporters at the airport before leaving Tuesday morning that India was non committal on the issue of sending Indian troops to Iraq and observed that due to some recent developments the role of the UN has been questioned. Indian Premier remarks come in the backdrop of the Defense ministry making it clear that it cannot spare troops for deployment in Iraq at this juncture as there was no let-up in cross border terrorism and they were needed to effectively counter it." Vajpayee, who is heading a high level delegation, said, "the UN session is going to be very important. To what extent the international community can maintain peace and carry everybody along, will be discussed." /211 End
