Kharrazi says occupation forces responsible for Hakim`s killing
IRNA
Damascus, Sept 9, IRNA -- Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi said here on Monday evening that the occupiers of Iraq are responsible for the assassination of the senior Iraqi Shiite leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer al-Hakim. Kharrazi, speaking at a ceremony to commemorate Ayatollah Hakim, said the occupation forces have failed to guarantee the security of the Iraqi citizens, as well as the religious and political leaders. "Therefore, even if the occupation forces were not directly involved in this crime, they have acted as the accomplice [in assassinating him]," he said. Ayatollah Hakim, who was the leader of the Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SAIRI), was martyred in a devastating explosion in Iraq`s holy city of Najaf last Friday. The explosion left some 125 killed and over 200 wounded. Kharrazi further underscored Hakim`s efforts to materialize the demands of the Iraqi people to promote Iraq`s independence and sovereignty as well as democracy in the country. He also regretted that Hakim`s death had inflicted the heaviest blow to the interests of the Iraqi people, adding that the occupation forces and the Zionist regime had benefited the most from the incident.
