Kelly inquiry to decide whether to call Baha`i mentor - a US spy
IRNA
London, Sept 8, IRNA -- Lord Hutton is expected to decide during this week`s adjournment of the judicial inquiry into the death of David Kelly whether to call for questioning the former Iraq arms inspector`s Baha`i mentor, who is reportedly a US spy. Mai Pedersen, an Arab-American who serves as a senior master sergeant in the US Air Force, reportedly introduced Kelly to Baha`ism, after they met during two UN arms inspections missions to Iraq five years ago. According to the Independent newspaper Monday, Pedersen, who speaks four languages and has rarely been seen in public since Kelly`s assumed suicide on July 18, is a "spy for the US airforce." The 43-year old US sergeant reportedly acted as his translator in Iraq in December 1998, when the last inspections were carried out before UN inspectors were forced to withdraw ahead of a US-led bombing campaign. Last week, the Times newspaper said that most of those concerned with the tragedy of Kelly`s assumed suicide were well aware that she played an important role in his life but were "unable to fathom exactly what that role was." Lord Hutton, a senior law lord, completed the first phase of his inquiry last Thursday before adjourning for a week to decide which fresh witnesses to call and which of those already given evidence should be further questioned in the second phase of his inquiry. It is widely expected that at least eight witnesses will be recalled, including Defence Secretary Geoff Hoon and Alastair Campbell, who resigned as Prime Minister Tony Blair`s Communications Director ten days ago.
