IRNA
Jakarta, Sept 3, IRNA -- Indonisian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda on Wednesday directed strong criticism against the United States for its policy in Iraq saying that it is now a proven fact that the United States cannot restore peace and stability in Iraq on its own. The internatninal community should come in to restore peace in the war-torn Middle Eastern country, said Hassan Wirajuda. The situation in Iraq is becoming worse and this shows that the United States has not been able to deal with the problems in Iraq and has failed in its policies. The deadly car bomb blast that killed in exceed of 120 people including top Shiite cleric al-Hakim clearly shows the failure of the US policies in Iraq, said the minister. The United States has concluded that to provide security for the Iraqis it has to ask the other nations to send peacekeeping forces to Iraq. He said Indonesia will only join a peacekeeping force in Iraq which is under the command of the United Nations. Press reports said the total death toll of the blast in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf on Friday amounted to 129 with more than 220 people injured. one of those killed was top Shiite cleric Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer Hakim. Ayatollah Hakim who was the head of the Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SAIRI), was martyred when he was returning from Friday prayers which he himself had led. HB/214 End
