Iraq: Tape Said To Be From Hussein Denies Al-Najaf Bomb Link
Baghdad, 1 September 2003 (RFE/RL) -- The Qatar-based Al-Jazeera television channel played an audiotape today, purportedly from ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, denying involvement in last week's deadly Al-Najaf bombing.
The voice, claimed to be Hussein's, accused U.S. forces and their allies of falsely blaming him for the bombing, which took the life of Shi'ite cleric Ayatollah Muhammad Baqir al-Hakim and over 120 others.
Several audiotapes purportedly from Saddam Hussein have been aired in recent weeks by Al-Jazeera.
