ICRC voices condolence to families of Najaf bombing victims
IRNA
Tehran, August 31, IRNA -- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) expressed its heartfelt condolences to the families of Friday bombing victims in Najaf, Iraq. The ICRC is appalled and shocked by the increasing number of civilian victims of indiscriminate attacks in Iraq which negate the basic principles of humanity and are serious violations of international humanitarian law, the ICRC office in Tehran said on Sunday. Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Revolution in raqi (SAIRI) Ayatollah Mohammad Baqer Hakim died in a terrorist attack in Najaf when two cars exploded outside the holy shrine of Imam Ali (AS). The bombing left at least 82 dead and 125 wounded. The ICRC said that the humanitarian organization delivered urgently needed surgical equipment and medical items to the hospitals in Najaf following the heavy bombing. "The ICRC stands ready to respond to further needs," it said. 215/212 End
