President Bush says the killing of Saddam Hussein's sons is a clear sign that the former Iraqi regime is gone and will not be coming back.
Speaking Wednesday at the White House, Mr. Bush said Saddam's two sons, Uday and Qusay, were responsible for the torture, maiming and murder of countless Iraqis. The two fugitives were killed Tuesday during a firefight with U.S. troops in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.
Flanked by Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and top U.S. administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer, the president said the few Saddam regime holdouts remaining in Iraq will be hunted down and defeated. He called them killers and enemies of the Iraqi people.
Mr. Bush praised Mr. Bremer, who heads the U.S.-led team administering post-war Iraq. The president said Mr. Bremer has a long term strategy for rebuilding Iraq.
The president also said the nations in the U.S.-led coalition are determined to help the Iraqi people recover from years of tyranny and build a free, sovereign and democratic nation.
