A U.S. soldier is dead and another wounded after coming under attack along a stretch of road northwest of Baghdad.
The attack marks the latest in a string of ambushes against U.S. forces. Thirty-nine American soldiers have been killed since the end of major combat on May 1.
Tuesday's incident followed the same pattern as many of the other attacks on coalition forces. Assailants shot rocket-propelled grenades at the U.S. troops, followed by small arms fire.
The attack took place in a predominantly Sunni Muslim area near the town of Ramadi, where many of the attacks against U.S. forces have been concentrated.
The American military has blamed the attacks on armed cells loyal to deposed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
There have been almost daily attacks on U.S. troops over the past week, which coincides with the anniversary of the Iraqi Baath Party revolution which took place July 17-30,1968.
