Iran backs UN participation in post-war Iraqi reconstruction
Tehran, July 20, Itar-Tass/ACSNA/IRNA -- President Mohammad Khatami
here Saturday said Iran supports the proposal to give the UN greater
participation in post-war reconstruction in Iraq, adding that he
welcomes plans to create an international force to ensure peace and
stabilize the situation in that neighbouring country.
He said: "We support the UN's fundamental and leading role and
the deployment of foreign troops in Iraq in order to ensure peace and
establish the people's power in the country.
With the situation in Iraq still highly chaotic more than three
months after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein on April 9, the Iranian

itself but also for the Iraqi people and other peoples in the region
to leave Iraq."
