Iraq: OIC Welcomes Governing Council, Calls For Full Government
Jeddah, 15 July 2003 (RFE/RL) -- The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) today said the convening on 13 July of the Governing Council in Iraq is a first step towards restoring full independence.
However, the secretary-general of the 57-member pan-Islamic body, Abdelouahed Belkeziz, also called for the "expeditious" establishment of a sovereign Iraqi government.
Belkeziz said Iraq should as soon as possible resume "the place it deserves among the nations of the world."
