U.S. military officials say three separate attacks in northern Iraq have left at least two Iraqis dead and 10 U.S. soldiers wounded. Six of the U.S. casualties occurred west of Baghdad in Ramadi, when two military vehicles struck an explosive device in a roadway. Another U.S. soldier was wounded and an Iraqi gunman killed during a firefight in Baghdad.

Separately in the capital, authorities say three U.S. soldiers were wounded during a night patrol. The U.S. Central Command says the patrol was attacked by a lone gunman, who was shot dead. A six-year-old boy with the gunman was wounded.

Meanwhile, hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Baquba Thursday, to protest the arrest of the northern town's top Shi'ite cleric by U.S. forces.

The French News Agency says a small bomb exploded during the protest. Witnesses said U.S. troops and Iraqi police then broke up the protest. Despite the daily attacks, President Bush says U.S. forces will remain in Iraq until democracy takes hold, and the country is run by Iraqis. He also again warned on Wednesday that the United States will deal harshly with those behind the attacks.
