BAGHDAD, IRAQ (June 25, 2003) - There were two incidents June 24 in Al Amarah, resulting in British casualties. In one incident, six British personnel were killed. In the second incident, troops, from the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment, patrolling south of Al Amarah came under fire. The patrol took one casualty and two vehicles were destroyed. In responding to the incident, a Royal Air Force CH-47 Chinook helicopter carrying a quick response force came under fire as it landed. Seven personnel on board the helicopter were wounded, three seriously. All were extracted by helicopter and are receiving treatment. The incidents are being investigated including whether or not they are related. More information will be provided when available and once next of kin have been informed. |
