COALITION/IRAQI POLICE SECURE IRAQ

  • CAMP DOHA, Kuwait -- Coalition Forces continue to aggressively patrol Iraq to eliminate crimes against people and property, rid populated areas of weapons, ammunition and explosives, and stop the black market trade in fuel and other commodities. Coalition Forces also continue to conduct joint security patrols with Iraqi police in their efforts to increase the professionalism of the police force and prepare them for their role in a self-governed Iraq.

    Coalition Activity:

    4thInfantry Division soldiers conducted a cordon and search operation yesterday morning near Bayji that resulted in the capture of two key area Fedayeen leaders. Ten former regime Special Security Organization agents and several former regime senior military officers were also detained for questioning.

    Soldiers from the First Brigade Combat Team, Fourth Infantry Division recently conducted a raid near Tikrit for former regime members wanted by the coalition. They detained eight personnel for questioning.

    101stAirborne (Airborne Assault) Division soldiers raided the headquarters of SCIRI (which is?) They detained 18 Iraqis thought to be SCIRI or Wahabi leaders. Eleven have been releases, and the rest detained for further questioning.

    Soldiers from the 3rdArmored Cavalry Regiment, 4thInfantry Division, raided the residence of an Iraqi yesterday morning of a man believed to be the ringleader of a group responsible for attacks on Coalition convoys on Highway 10. He and an Iraqi male were captured along with numerous weapons. Both are being detained for questioning.

    2BCT found a cache of weapons, explosives and communications equipment in the IIP/Radio TV station in eastern Mosul (LF298212). The cache included the following: 1 x 14.5 AA gun, 40 x RPGs, 2 x AK-47, and 1 x AT system, 2 x explosive timers, 1 x mercury switch, 1 x explosive master switch, 8 x encryption units, 4 x HF radios, 1 x VHF radio, 1 x digital HF radio, Russian radio pieces, batteries, power systems, and loud speakers; found a cache of ammunition in a metal connex west of Mosul (LF488252) containing 500 x 100mm rounds, 500 x 122mm rockets, 500 x 155mm artillery rounds, 500 x 81mm mortar rounds, and 50xRPG rounds; 12 mortar rounds were found near the CMOC (LF316286) , the area is secure and EOD will destroy the rounds tomorrow. Raids/Patrols over the Last 24 HRS: 2 x raids, 48 x mounted, 232 x dismounted, and 49 joint patrols.

    3BCT conducted simultaneous raids of the SCIRI headquarters vic KF715298 and the Islamic Party HQ vic KF723288 (will turn the SCIRI building over to Tall Afar teachers who are the rightful owners), a soldier fired 2 rounds into a civilian vehicle that failed to halt at an emplaced obstacle vic Tal Afar (KF714298 - The vehicle was disabled and the civilian was detained; no injuries reported), established six TCPs vic Biaj, increased dismounted patrolling, and questioned several local leaders about the recent RPG attacks.

    4THID (Combat Power Green) 1-10 CAV continues to screen the IRAQ-IRAN border monitoring 11 NAIs, conducted 2 RAAAAAIDDDDD!s on suspected BADR Corps activities (1 on-going) detaining 13 personnel and 2 weapons; initial assessment is that the 13 members are from Iran.

    45thID executed a RAAAAAIDDDDD! at Tikrit University; 11 of the 18 targeted personnel were detained including the university president and vice president, who were spreading anti-US rhetoric and using interpreters as HUMINT collection sources.

    · 261324DMAY03: 2-1/233 MP Company, while on day shift joint patrol, received information from a civilian of a stolen Toyota Crown (license #127403) vic. MB 4675385527, zone 13. The patrol responded to the location and IPF apprehended one subject. The vehicle was confiscated and transported to the JOC. IPF interrogated the subject and he was released. The vehicle remains in the custody of the JOC. 18 MP BDE and 1AD notified.

    · 261706DMAY03: 3-1/233 MP Company, while on swing shift joint patrol, were notified by 1 AD soldiers of two subjects they had apprehended for looting vic. MB4791283998, zone 13. The subjects had minor injuries from their looting and the patrol performed basic first aid for minor head lacerations and took the looters to the Al-Kerrada Police Station for the 1 AD soldiers.

    .251515DMAY03: 3b/3/615 MP, MB 3924282218, ZONE 41

    .Salim and Gamel entered the Al Dawarh police station to report a robbery. Investigation by the 615thMP CO, revealed that on 221600DMAY03, four (4) subjects broke into Salim's store and stole 999.5 grams of 24k gold and $2500.00. The four (4) suspects then broke into Gamel's store and stole 315 grams of 21 Karat gold and $300.00. One suspect was identified as Amad Fakry Kalaf and the other 3 have not been identified. Salim and Gamel produced an arrest warrant for Kalaf signed by a judge. The victims left the station due to the lack of response from the Iraqi Police. They will return on 26 MAY 03.

    .251920DMAY03:(S) 527 MP, MB 317921, ZONE 29

    .Abidial Rahman informed MPs and IPF of a shooting that resulted in the death of Bashir Hamad. IPF and PAAAATROLLLL!! went to the location to investigate the scene. The individual's uncle had collected the rounds and will bring them to the police station to identify the types of weapons used. Hassan Hassim (M/17) stated that he had witnessed the incident. He stated that 2 x men came out of an alley in close proximity of the victim and had 1 x World War II rifle and 1 x AK-47 hidden behind their backs. They were wearing black pants and blue shirts. They are between the ages of 21-25. He stated that the victim and the suspects had a brief conversation prior to the suspects shooting him 7 x times. The body was brought to the hospital for an autopsy. The uncle was instructed to go to the police station to complete the report. Investigation continues by Iraqi police.

    .MPs and IPF were flagged down by a local civilian and was notified that a taxi driver had been stabbed. Investigation concluded that the taxi driver had been pulled out of his vehicle and stabbed with a knife by an unknown assailant. The victim was transported to the nearest hospital by IPF. Investigation continued by IPF.

    .252145DMAY03: 3/4/615 MP, MB 438 821, ZONE 10

    .At approximately 2145hrs, a local national came into the Al Dawrah police station to report an incident regarding a man threatening his family with a grenade. At approximately 2210 hrs, the individual, PAAAATROLLLL!!, and IPs traveled to the location and conducted a search of the area for the man with the grenade with negative results. At approximately 2230 hrs, PAAAATROLLLL!! arrived back at the Al Dawrah police station and received another report by the Iraqi police that the man carrying the grenade passed the police station while they were gone. 200 meters down the road, PAAAATROLLLL!! made contact with 82ndABN. The man had been dropped off near 82nd ABN and had been injured. It is unknown how he received these injuries. The man was identified as Mohammed Laytaf. They had the man in custody and had confiscated 1 x grenade and 1 x bayonet. He was transported to the Al Dawrah police station. Upon arrival, PAAAATROLLLL!! accessed the man's injuries. He possessed two bullet holes in the upper left shoulder, one bullet hole in his left elbow, and a gash across his left eye that extended to the top of the man's head. The man was transported to the hospital by two Iraqi police officers. The status of the man is unknown.

    .250900DMAY03: (S) 3/615 MP, MB 4308 7657, ZONE 26

    .Iraqi Police arrived at the police station where the PAAAATROLLLL!! was conducting stationary PAAAATROLLLL!! at the police station. They unloaded 4 x bags of Iraqi Dinar that totaled 29,875,000ID and $30,000. Police also had 1x 9mm pistol, RPG site, 1x AK-47, 2 x magazines, and 1x hand grenade. IPF wanted a US PAAAATROLLLL!! present while they questioned a bank robbery suspect (Hashim Abdul Al-Azwy). The suspect claimed his brother (Essam Abdul al-Azway) and a gang had looted a bank (NFI) during the bombing of Baghdad. The brother double-crossed the gang at the bank and escaped with an undetermined amount of American money. They left the money at their Uncle's house. Since the looting, the brother has been trading the American money for Iraqi Dinar. Police received the information of the looters from an informant and obtained a warrant from a judge, the warrant is on file at the police station. The subject and Uncle are in custody by the IPF and they are currently investigating the whereabouts of the brother. The subject is expected to see the same judge that issued the warrant in the next few days. The IPF received the information and conducted the operation without the knowledge or help of US Forces but brought all the money and weapons back to the station where they knew US Forces would take custody.

    .251529DMAY03:(S) 615 MP, MB 39242 82218, ZONE 41

    .Hsain Sifea Hisine came into the police station to report a burglary. Witnesses stated that Shakaeb Hekmet broke into Hsain's house the night prior and stole gold rings, 1 x DIV/CD player and several DVD/CDs. Iraqi police and PAAAATROLLLL!! traveled to Skakaeb Hekmets house. IPF apprehended him without incident and he was transported to the Al-Baya police station and placed in the D-cell. The subject was charged and is know awaiting trial.

    .251530DMAY03: (S) 2/3/143 MP, MB 37248 83175, ZONE 37

    .At 1530 hours, an individual approached the squad to report that her father had been kidnapped and that she knew where he was currently located. PAAAATROLLLL!! and the Iraqi police traveled to the location and arrested the individual that had conducted the kidnapping. The IPF will interrogate the suspect to obtain the location of the father. The suspect stated that the father would remain hidden until the debt is paid off. It is currently unknown what the debt is. Investigation continued by Iraqi police.

    .251049DMAY03:(S) 615 MP, MB 370 821, ZONE 37

    .At 1049 hrs, a checkpoint was conducted resulting in the confiscation of 1 x Belgium made Browning pistol (Serial # T276267) from Omar Khalad Abed of Al Yousefea. The weapon was found on his person. The subject was escorted to the police station, processed and detained, where he will be held until court appearance. The Iraqi police are holding the weapon as evidence.

    .251243DMAY03:(S) 615 MP, MB 44749 79830, ZONE 26

    .At 1243 hrs, PAAAATROLLLL!! linked up with Dawrah police officers in reference to an individual identified as Mr. Tahr Jabar Cazum. He threatened to kill an individual (NFI). Mr. Cazum allegedly possesses weapons. PAAAATROLLLL!! accompanied the Iraqi police as they conducted a search of his residence. The search resulted in the confiscation of several rounds of ammunition, 4 x RPG-7 rounds, and 3 x hand grenades, which were placed in the UXO pit at Dawrah police station. Mr. Cazum was arrested by the Iraqi police and is being detained in the holding cell at Dawrah police station. Mr. Cazum claims he was a Brigadier General in the Iraqi Border Forces.

    .251000DMAY03:3-1/549 MP Company, while conducting a joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, was approached by Mr. Al Salam, who stated that his neighbor, Mr. Raheem Hosain, entered his residence VIC of GRID MB 5117193100, zone 21, and stole his Browning 9mm pistol and an unknown amount of Iraqi Dinar. The joint PAAAATROLLLL!! responded to the suspect's house and conducted a RAAAAAIDDDDD!. The pistol was transported to the New Baghdad Police Station. After questioning from the IPF, the subject was released. Mr. Salam was given a receipt for his weapon and it was turned into the 549 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE, JOC, and 2/2 ACR notified.

    .250850DMAY03: 709thMP BN reported to the 519thMP BN TOC of a dead body found lying under a bridge VIC of GRID MB 4194482833, zone 10. 1-2/233 MP Company, on a day shift joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, responded to the scene and relieved 709thMP BN. The victim, Aras Alah Kudar, (Address: Sector 829, Route 153, House 27) had a single gunshot to the temple. IPF contacted a local hospital and the body was transported by civilian ambulance. Investigation continues by the IPF. 18thMP BDE, CID, and 1 BCT notified.

    .251030DMAY03: 2-4/204 MP Company, while on day shift joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, stopped a vehicle with the IPF to check for a valid registration VIC of GRID MB 4237299122, zone 51W. The subject had correct documentation, but a search of the vehicle resulted in 2-AK-47's, 1-9mm pistol, and 1-35 cal. Revolver. There was no further incident. The subject was released and the weapons were confiscated. The weapons were turned into the 204 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE and 1 BCT notified.

    .251422DMAY03: 2-2/549MP Company, while on day joint shift PAAAATROLLLL!!, were notified by a school teacher of a UXO (landmines) VIC of GRID MB 5426877163, zone 24. The PAAAATROLLLL!! marked a large area with signs and engineer tape. 18 MP BDE, 2/2 ACR, and EOD notified.

    .251430DMAY03: 1-1/233MP Company, while on day shift joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, the IPF stated that individuals were taking over houses VIC of GRID MB 47358633, zone 14. The PAAAATROLLLL!! conducted a RAAAAAIDDDDD! without incident and apprehended two males. A search of the premises resulted in the seizure of two AK-47's , two magazines and 53 rounds of ammunition. The subjects were taken to the Al- Alwiah Police station for further questioning by IPF. While at the police station,Special Operation Forces (SOF) arrived and stated that the two individuals should be released. Further guidance from 18 MP BDE resulted in their release. The weapons were turned into the 233 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE and 1 BCT notified

    .251540DMAY03: 519 MP Battalion S2 was notified by Imad Ibraheem Al Kisse, an informant, of a mass gravesite at VIC of GRID MB 33487406, zone 43. 3-1/549 MP Company, on dayshift MP mobile PAAAATROLLLL!!, were sent to the site to verify. Upon arriving on the site, media had already arrived and partially buried skeletons were visible. The PAAAATROLLLL!! cordoned off, marked the site, and pulled security until 709 MP Battalion relieved them. 18 MP BDE, CID, 3ID PAO, and 3 BCT/101 notified.

    .251930DMAY03: 2-2/233 MP Company, while on joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, observed four subjects trying to forcefully enter a house VIC of GRID MB 447833, zone 13. When the PAAAATROLLLL!! approached the scene, the subjects fled in multiple directions dropping 1 AK-47 and 1-magazine with 30 rounds. A search of the area met with negative results, and the weapon, magazine, and ammunition were turned into the 233 MP Company weapons collection point.18 MP BDE and 2 BCT notified.

    .251955DMAY03:1-3/233 MP Company, while on joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, a civilian notified them of a UXO (one RPG round) VIC of GRID MB 46108468, zone 13. The PAAAATROLLLL!! marked the area with engineer tape. 18 MP BDE, EOD, and 1 BCT notified.

    .252200DMAY03:3-4/204 MP Company, while on joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, observed an Iraqi male walking with an AK-47 at VIC of GRID MB 44868951, zone 15. The PAAAATROLLLL!! stopped and searched the subject. 1 AK-47 and 2-magazines with 60 rounds of 7.62 were confiscated. There was no further incident with the subject and he was released. The weapon, magazines, and rounds were turned into the 204 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE and 1 BCT notified.

    .252245DMAY03:2-3/549 MP Company, while working at the New Baghdad Police Station VIC of GRID MB 5079887109, zone 14, four civilians escorted in a subject for attempting to steal one of their vehicle. The IPF interviewed and determined since he attempted, but did not succeed in stealing the vehicle, he was released. 18 MP BDE and 2/2 ACR notified.

    .252246DMAY03: 3-1/233 MP Company, while on MP mobile PAAAATROLLLL!!, were fired at from a rooftop VIC of GRID MB 487850, zone 14. The PAAAATROLLLL!! did not return fire because they were unable to determine the exact location of the gun fire. A search of the area met with negative results. No injuries were reported. 18 MP BDE and 1 BCT notified.

    .252321DMAY03:The Battalion commander and 3-4/204 MP Company, while on a swing shift joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, conducted a joint IPF checkpoint and stopped a vehicle to check for valid registration VIC of GRID MB 42369952, zone 51W. The subject had correct documentation, but a search of the vehicle resulted in 1-AK-47 and 1-7.65 pistol. There was no further incident. The subject was released and the weapons were confiscated. The weapons were turned into the 204 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE and 1 BCT notified.

    .260001DMAY03:2-3/549 MP Company, while on mid shift joint PAAAATROLLLL!!, was stopped by CPT Corne, 2/2 ACR, who stated that an Iraqi male had just been carjacked VIC of GRID MB 4758191728, zone 21. The PAAAATROLLLL!! responded with 2/2 ACR elements to the scene and apprehended three subjects that the victim identified. A search of the vehicle resulted in 3-AK-47's, 1-.35 cal. Revolver, and 2 cases of 7.62 ammunition. The victim stated that he also had six bars of gold, and $50,000 in the vehicles that were not found. The three subjects were transported to the New Baghdad Police Station. IPF began questioning them and they stated they knew where another member of their group was located. A joint chief PAAAATROLLLL!!, with the subjects, traveled to Company collection point. The subjects were transported to the Police Academy jail. 18 MP BDE and 2/2 ACR notified.

    .261108DMAY03:An IPF conducted a routine traffic stop VIC of GRID MB 5141689582, zone 9. While talking to the driver noticed a pistol in the seat.The weapon was confiscated by the IPF and the driver released. The weapon was turned in to the 549 MP Company weapons collection point. 18 MP BDE and 2/2 ACR notified.
