DOHA, Kuwait - Coalition Forces continue to assist in developing a safer and
more secure environment in Iraq.
The
Coalition's Humanitarian Operations Center, Kuwait: - Recently
facilitated a Jordanian Humane
Society delivery
and escort of five tons of animal feed and veterinary support the 1,500 gazelles
for the Saddam Hussein's game preserve vicinity Ar Rutbah
- Recently
facilitated a Benzene contract with a State Owned Marketing Organization which
begins May 27.
They
will deliver 40 to 100 trucks of Benzene from Jordan daily.
The
Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance (ORHA) Oil Ministry is
working to resolve the benzene delivery problem.
- Recently
coordinated delivery of electronic components to the Hit water treatment facility.
- Are
working with a contractor to purchase lubricant for the generators at the Mosul
Dam.
- Are
facilitating humanitarian assistance convoys from UNICEF,
ICRC,
and Convoy
of Hopeon
Tuesday
BAGHDAD
Soldiers
of the 3rdInfantry
Division:
·
Are
providing medical support to Iraqis at the Baghdad pension payment sitedaily
from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m ·
Continue
to pay Baghdad railroad workers. ·
Recently
completed 18
propane delivery missions, distributing
980 bottles of propaneat
government facilities. ·
Recently
removed 39 truckloads of Iraqi ammunition out of the Baghdad area.
5,373
tons have been removed to date.
WESTERN
IRAQ
3rd
Armored Cavalry Regiment soldiers recently:
- Received
24 trucks of bulk food shipments at a UN food distribution site for a total
of 343 shipments to date.
- Moved
20,000 bags from a UN Food Distribution site to
prevent the rotting of the wheat crop in Al Quaim.
MOSUL / TIKRIT
82D Airborne Division recently: ·
Conducted
a Memorial Day ceremony that was attended by the Mayor of Mosul, the Vice-Mayor,
and other local leaders. ·
Received
175 benzene and 33 propane trucks for distribution. ·
Conducted
a "Task Force Neighborhood" mission in Mosul, cleaning up the area around the
Al Safar Mosque. ·
Hosted
ORHA representatives at the Aski Mawsil water plant and Al Waleea grain silo
to coordinate future repairs and upgrade
·
Continued
coordinating with Mosul University today to allocate U.S. military commanders
discretionary funds towards the purchase and installation of new computer systems.
4th Infantry Division soldiers recently:
·
Reported
elections in Kirkuk are proceeding well, that council members were elected
Monday. ·
Reported
that payments were distributed to police, medical and school workers today,
the Kirkuk food storage and warehouses are open and ready to distribute goods,
101st
Airborne (Air Assault) Division soldiers recently:
- Received175
benzene and 35 propane trucks from Turkey, reports all gas stations are open
in Mosul.
- Conducted
a "Task Force Neighborhood" mission in Mosul, cleaning long neglected streets.
- Reported
that the Bayji power station is operational and will soon supply electrical
power to the region.
SOUTHERN IRAQ
AS
SAMAWAH
Marines of the 5thMarine
Regiment recently:
- Have
largely solved the water supply issue in the area, and are only supplying water
to one village.
- Received
21 benzene gasoline tanker trucks and distributed the fuel to three cities
in the governate.
AD DIWANIYAH
Marines of the 5thMarine
Regiment recently: - Reported
a total of $23,120 was paid to eight separate companies for renovating the
governate building and repairing schools and parks in the city.
- Exchanged
10,000 to 250 dinar denominations (forty million dinars total) in an effort
to combat a practice within the city of vendors not returning full change to
customers.
AN NAJAF Marines
of the 7thMarine
Regiment recently
- Continued
to help the city prepare for elections by confirming the procedures for the
conduct of registration and of the voting, and reconnoitering 20 of the 29
polling sites for suitability.
KARBALA
Marines
of the 7thMarine
Regiment recently: - Met
the ORHA Projects Team to review the list of reconstruction project submissions.
- Hosted
a tour of the courthouse and general hospital to evaluate them for ORHA funding.
AL HILLAH
Marines of the 4thMarine
Regiment: ·
Continue
to support the payment of $20 ORHA stipends to Iraqi civil servants .
