Iran, Jordan call for formation of democratic government in Iraq
IRNA
Amman, May 26, IRNA -- Minister of Mines and Metals Eshaq Jahangiri
and Jordanian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shaher Bak in
a meeting here Tuesday stressed the need for formation of a democratic
government in Iraq.
At the meeting, the two sides termed restoration of stability and
security in Iraq and its neighbors as 'vital'.
Iran and Jordan have adopted a very coordinated stance on Iraqi
crisis, they said and called for non-interference of foreign
countries in Iraq's internal affairs.
Underlining the need for restoration of stability in Iraq, Bak
called for continuation of relief aid to the Iraqi people.
He also called for cooperation among regional countries to help
restore peace in Iraq and reconstruct that country.
For his part, Jahangiri said "We hope the Iraqi people would be
able to decide their own fate and elect a national and popular
government in the war-shattered country."
Consolidation of stability and restoration of security in Iraq
would benefit all its neighboring countries, Jahangiri said.
The two officials discussed expansion of political and economic
cooperation between Iran and Jordan.
They also reviewed mutual cooperation in reconstructing Iraq as
well as the latest developments in Palestine.
