CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - Coalition Forces continue to actively patrol Iraq to make it safe to conduct Humanitarian Assistance operations. Recent incidents highlight the dangerous nature of their work:

A V Corps patrol seized a high-powered rifle and an AK-47 and mortar rounds during a raid on an unspecified location near Ad Diwaniyah late Wednesday evening. The soldiers also detained five individuals for questioning in the raid. There was no exchange of gunfire, and there were no casualties.
Unidentified individuals threw grenades at a U.S. Army convoy passing underneath a highway overpass in Baghdad late Wednesday evening. Several vehicles sustained shrapnel damage, but there were no US casualties. The vehicles continued to their destination.
Three individuals on a motorcycle fired at 3d Infantry Division soldiers at an unspecified location in Iraq Wednesday afternoon. The soldiers fired back and killed all three assailants. The soldiers sustained no casualties.
V Corps soldiers responded to reports of gunfire at a Mosul bus station after a lone male suspect brandishing a pistol injured two Iraqi civilians late Wednesday morning. The suspect fired at the soldiers, then fled the scene. One soldier received a grazing wound to the lower leg, but was returned to duty shortly after the incident. Iraqi medical personnel who responded to the scene treated both Iraqi citizens, and their conditions are unknown.
Despite the danger, Coalition forces remain dedicated to providing a secure and stable environment throughout Iraq so that infrastructure repair and humanitarian aid can continue.
