COALITION FORCES PROVIDE SECURITY AND STABILITY
CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - Coalition forces continue to actively patrol Iraq to make it safe to conduct humanitarian assistance operations. Recent incidents highlight the dangerous nature of their work:
An unknown gunman in a taxicab fired a rocket-propelled grenade at a group of V Corps soldiers early Monday morning in Baghdad. There were no casualties from the incident and the gunman escaped.
Soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division reported heavy machine gun and RPG fire late Sunday evening near Samarrah. The unit sustained no casualties and three gunmen were detained after the incident.
Another group of 4th Infantry Division soldiers were attacked with RPGs Sunday evening in the vicinity of Baqubah. The soldiers returned fire after the gunmen retreated to a building, killing one gunman. The soldiers sustained no casualties.
Later Sunday evening, two individuals with AK-47s were spotted on top of a bank roughly two kilometers from the previous incident in Baqubah, but both men evaded capture. No fire was exchanged and there were no casualties.
Despite the danger, Coalition forces remain dedicated to providing a secure and stable environment throughout Iraq so that infrastructure repair and humanitarian aid can continue.
