Germany rules out military engagement in Iraq for now
Berlin, May 5, IRNA -- A German government spokesman here Monday rule out any current plans for a military engagement in Iraq.
"I cannot envision such as a case -- at least not at the present time," said Bela Anda during a news briefing.
Asked about Berlin's stance on the planned deployment of 2,000 Polish troops in northern Iraq, Anda refused to say whether his government would welcome the action.
The German official also reiterated that any kind of German contribution to the reconstruction of Iraq would have to be 'under the umbrella of the United Nations'.
Berlin opposed strongly the US-led war in Iraq, resulting in a dramatic worsening of German-American relations.
