COALITION FORCES CONTINUE HA DESPITE DISRUPTIONS

CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - Coalition forces continue to focus military operations on conducting security patrols, humanitarian assistance missions, facility assessments and securing sensitive sites in key Iraqi cities.

A soldier with the U.S. Army's 3rd Infantry Division was shot in the back of the head by an Iraqi civilian at a Baghdad intersection May 4. Two Marines provided first aid and the soldier was evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital where he is in stable condition. The soldier's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Off-duty Iraqi policemen fired on U.S. Marines in Al-Hillah when they were caught apparently trying to steal a civilian vehicle May 4. The Marines returned fire, killing one and wounding another. The Marines sustained no casualties.

An assailant fired on Marines manning a traffic control point in Ad Diwaniyah May 4. The assailant was then captured. The Marines sustained no casualties.

U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division soldiers confronted a group of looters in Baghdad May 4. The looters fired upon the soldiers, who returned fire, wounding one looter. The soldiers sustained no casualties.

A patrol from the 4th Infantry Division encountered 20-30 armed men in Samarah May 4. The group fired on the patrol as the soldiers dismounted their vehicle, then dispersed. The soldiers returned fire, possibly wounding two of the armed men. The soldiers sustained no casualties.

Despite the danger, Coalition forces remain dedicated to providing a secure and stable environment throughout Iraq so that the delivery of humanitarian aid and infrastructure repair can continue.
