Threats to Coalition Forces Continue

CAMP DOHA, Kuwait - The danger of conducting military operations in Iraq continues, as one Coalition soldiers was killed and several were injured during separate incidents that took place since yesterday morning.

A V Corps soldier was killed yesterday morning near Al Habbaniyah when the tank he was driving rolled off an embankment and filled with water before he could be rescued. The incident is under investigation.

A Coalition soldier stepped on buried unexploded ordnance (UXO), which detonated. The incident took place yesterday morning in northern Baghdad. The soldier was evacuated a field hospital. The extent of the soldiers injuries are unknown at this time.

A High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) and two Land Rovers struck an unidentified explosive device near Al Qurnah yesterday. 10 Coalition soldiers were injured and evacuated to a field hospital.

An unidentified individual fired a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) at a Coalition tank in southwestern Baghdad early this morning. The RPG fell short and detonated in the ground. No Coalition soldiers were injured.

An assailant on a motorcycle fired several rounds from an AK-47 assault rifle at a Coalition communications facility near Samarrah early this morning. The motorcyclist escaped. No Coalition soldiers were injured.

A Coalition truck convoy near was briefly fired upon by small arms yesterday evening in the vicinity of As Samawah. The assailant or assailants did not press the attack and the convoy proceeded without through the area without further incident. There were no injuries to personnel or equipment.

A Coalition Explosive Ordnance Disposal soldier was injured when the fuse he was attempting to remove from an RPG detonated. He was evacuated to the 28thCombat Support Hospital with minor injuries.

The names of the dead and wounded soldiers will be withheld until notification of next of kin.

Despite the danger, Coalition forces remains dedicated to setting the conditions throughout Iraq so that the delivery of humanitarian aid, and infrastructure repair can continue.
