  • COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI MOBILE SURFACE TO AIR MISSILE SYSTEMS 15 Feb 2003 -- In response to Iraqi threats to Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target two Iraqi military mobile surface to air missile systems. The systems were located near Al Basrah, approximately 245 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strike occurred at approximately midnight EST.

  • 15th MEU(SOC) Lands in Kuwait USMC News 15 Feb 2003 -- The 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), which was the first Marine force on the ground in Afghanistan at the start of Operation Enduring Freedom, began moving ashore at a port in Kuwait just after dawn Feb. 12.

  • ITALY / AZIZ VOA 15 Feb 2003 -- Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Tariq Aziz called for peace in Assisi, Italy on Saturday. He took part in prayers at St. Francis Basilica there. Mr. Aziz has been meeting with Italian officials and the pope, seeking support against a possible U-S led war in Iraq.
  • INDONESIA / HOWARD / IRAQ VOA 15 Feb 2003 -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard has completed a world tour with a visit to Indonesia, and more talks on the issue of Iraq. Mr. Howard and the Indonesian president continue to hold differing views of how best to solve the crisis.
  • ASIA / DEMONSTRATION WRAP VOA 15 Feb 2003 -- Thousands of protesters in Australia and New Zealand poured into the streets Saturday to kick off a weekend of world-wide demonstrations against any war in Iraq.
  • RUSSIA/IRAQ VOA 15 Feb 2003 -- Russian officials say chances have improved for a peaceful resolution to the Iraq crisis during Friday's United Nations Security Council meeting. Russia's top diplomats say they're encouraged, but they add that Baghdad must do more as well.
