  • COALITION FORCES TARGET IRAQI ANTI-AIR ARTILLERY SITE 25 Jan 2003 -- In response to Iraqi hostile acts against Coalition aircraft monitoring compliance of United Nations Security Council Resolutions over Southern Iraq, Operation SOUTHERN WATCH Coalition aircraft used precision-guided weapons today to target one anti-air artillery site near Tallil, approximately 170 miles southeast of Baghdad. The strikes occurred at approximately 6:20 a.m. EST.

  • IRAQ/INSPECT VOA 25 Jan 2003 -- An Iraqi, believed to be a scientist, arrived at U-N offices in Baghdad Saturday with an Iraqi official, following a U-N request to talk privately to three of the country's scientists about possible weapons programs in Iraq. Officials say some of the scientists refused private interviews with U-N officials.

  • DAVOS/OIL VOA 25 Jan 2003 -- Saudi Arabia's oil minister says his country and the oil cartel, OPEC, could make up for any interruption in oil supplies caused by a possible war in Iraq. He told business and political leaders meeting at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the oil price had been driven too high by what he called "the drums of war."
