Tracking Inspections: 20 DECEMBER 2002
Two groups totaling 10 inspectors returned to the Al-Tuwaythah site (Tuwaythah Industrial Chemical Research Center), inspecting the "French and Italian projects," the "Russian reactor," and the Al-Shaykhali warehouses, according to the Foreign Ministry. UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) stated that Al-Shaykhali is a storage facility for dual-use equipment from the past Iraqi nuclear program. A radiation survey was conducted at Al-Shaykhali and the surrounding areas. UNMOVIC reported that inspectors were able to conduct a full inspection at Al-Tuwaythah, even though it was a Friday (Muslim day of rest), and all managers at the facility came to work and cooperated with inspectors.
A second team of 10 inspectors visited the Chemical department at the Atomic Energy Organization, where they toured the laboratories and inquired as to the department's research, the ministry stated.
