- COALITION FORCES DROP LEAFLETS TO DISCOURAGE REPAIRS OF COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT 02 Dec 2002-- Operation SOUTHERN WATCH aircraft dropped 240,000 leaflets at about 3 a.m. EDT today over communication facilities located between Al Kut and An Nasiriyah, approximately 100-150 miles southeast of Baghdad in Southern Iraq. These sites were damaged or destroyed by Coalition strikes on December 1.
- Iraq attacks ONW aircraft monitoring No-Fly zone 02 Dec 2002-- Coalition aircraft responded in self-defense to the Iraqi attacks by dropping precision guided munitions on elements of the Iraqi integrated air defense system.
- COREY HINDERSTEIN VOA 02 Dec 2002-- Weapons inspections continue in Iraq Monday with inspectors visiting a military complex in Baghdad, and an alcohol factory outside the capital. So far, the inspectors have visited sites in and around Baghdad, but soon they will be capable of unannounced inspections virtually anywhere in Iraq. Corey Hinderstein (pron: steen) is the assistant director and senior analyst at the Institute for Science and International Security in Washington, D. C. judgment: Has Saddam Hussein changed his behavior of the last 11
years? Has he decided to cooperate willingly and comply completely, or
has he not? So far the signs are not encouraging. A regime that fires
upon American and British pilots is not taking the path of compliance.
A regime that sends letters filled with protests and falsehoods is not
taking the path of compliance.
- Wolfowitz: Disarmament of Saddam's WMDs Is the Goal AFPS 02 Dec 2002-- Deputy Defense Secretary Paul D. Wolfowitz told members of a British "think tank" here today that although it's good that U.N. weapons inspectors are scouring Iraq for weapons of mass destruction, the primary goal is to disarm Saddam Hussein's regime.
