- Transcript: Iraqi Deception and Denial By John Yurechko, Defense Intelligence Agency Officer, Foreign Press Center Briefing US Dept. of State 11 Oct 2003 -- "Our objective today is pretty simple: to describe for you the Iraqi denial and deception program for its WMD and ballistic missile programs. Denial and deception is not just a traditional military activity that seeks to confuse the tactical military commander on the battlefield. On the contrary, the case of Iraq, denial and deception, or D&D, as you will hear me use that phrase, is a deliberate, methodical, expensive and well organized national level strategic effort which aims at deceiving not just the United States, not just the United Nations, and not just even the public media, but in fact the entire world."
- Defense Department Briefing, October 11, 2002 Washington File 11 Oct 2002-- Clarke: In the briefing on September 30th, the secretary and the chairman
discussed the no-fly zones in Iraq, which were established to protect
the Iraqi people from Saddam Hussein's aggression. And they discussed
also the many violations -- Iraqi violations of U.N. Security Council
resolutions. Since we showed those videotapes a week or so ago to
audiences around the world, and since we dropped leaflets urging the
Iraqi forces not to fire on coalition aircraft, the Iraqis have
continued to fire on coalition pilots on an almost daily basis.

includes funds for new Navy warships, Army helicopters, Air Force
fighter and cargo aircraft and the Bush administration's missile
defense program.

The strike occurred at about 9:18 a.m. EDT.
- Department of the Navy Memorandum for the Record 11 Oct 2002-- Based on all of the information now available, I belive that the logical extension of Secretary Danzig's determination, and the more appropriate category for Captain Speicher, is Missing/Captured.
- CONGRESS / IRAQ WRAP VOA 11 Oct 2002-- The U-S Congress has handed President Bush a major victory, as both the House of Representatives and the Senate overwhelmingly approved a resolution giving him the authority to use military action -- if necessary -- to disarm Iraq.
- Powell-Iraq VOA 11 Oct 2002-- Secretary of State Colin Powell says he thinks the Congressional resolution authorizing President Bush to use military force against Iraq will boost his efforts to get new U-N Security Council resolution aimed at forcing Saddam Hussein to disarm. - THE DEBATE OVER THE IRAQI THREAT VOA 11 Oct 2002-- As the United States Congress debates a resolution supporting the use of military force against Iraq and the United Nations negotiates with Iraq over the return of U-N weapons inspectors, President George W. Bush delivered a speech outlining the reasons for confronting Saddam Hussein.
- U-S/IRAQ/GRASSROOTS VOA 11 Oct 2002-- The U-S Congress has given President Bush authority to take military action against Iraq, if Baghdad fails to disarm. While the president says he still has not decided whether to use force in Iraq, the prospect of such action has drawn tens-of-thousands of people onto the streets in other countries. But in the United States, anti-war activists are struggling to mobilize opposition to any U-S military action
- PENTAGON/IRAQ/PILOT VOA 11 Oct 2002-- The U-S Navy has changed the status of a Gulf War pilot from missing in action to "missing-captured."
- IRAQ / IRAN VOA 11 Oct 2002-- Iran is monitoring closely the debate over whether to wage a war against Baghdad. The government is reported to be preparing camps for Iraqi refugees along its common border, much as it did during the 1991 Gulf War
- CONGRESS/IRAQ/POLITICS VOA 11 Oct 2002-- With the vote authorizing use of force against Iraq behind them, Democratic leaders in Congress are seeking to refocus attention on the economy. They hope the issue will help their party in next month's mid-term elections. But other Democrats are not ready to abandon the debate over Iraq
- UN / CHINA / IRAQ VOA 11 Oct 2002-- United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan leaves Saturday for China, the first stop on a visit to seven Asian countries. The issue of Iraq is not on the agenda, but is expected to come up in discussions in Beijing
- RUSSIA / IRAQ VOA 11 Oct 2002-- Russian President Vladimir Putin has told visiting British Prime Minister Tony Blair that a deal can be struck for a tough new U-N Security Council resolution on Iraq. But Mr. Putin said so far he is not convinced such a resolution is necessary, or that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction
