  • IRAQ INSPECTORS VOA 30 Sept 2002-- Talks between U-N weapons inspectors and Iraqi arms experts have opened in Vienna.
  • WEAPONS INSPECTIONS IN IRAQ? VOA 30 Sept 2002-- President George W. Bush addressed the United Nations on September 12th, calling on the world body to enforce a decade's worth of Security Council resolutions on Iraq. Within a week, Iraq announced it would allow U-N weapons inspectors in unconditionally. But the fine print of Saddam Hussein's offer contains conditions that might impede inspectors in their efforts to find Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
  • PENTAGON/RUSSIA/IRAQ VOA 30 Sept 2002-- The Pentagon has rejected Russian criticism of the latest U-S and British coalition airstrikes on targets in the no-fly zones in Iraq.

  • PENTAGON/IRAQ VOA 30 Sept 2002-- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld says Iraq's defiance of the international community is symbolized by its forces continuing to fire on U-S and British aircraft patrolling the no-fly zones in the north and the south of the country
  • TURKEY / IRAQ VOA 30 Sept 2002-- Top Iraqi and U-S officials are in Ankara to try to win Turkey's support in the event of a U-S led military operation against Iraq
  • U.S. Says Iraq Must Decide to Disarm Washington File 30 Sept 2002-- State Department spokesman Richard Boucher said on September 30 that Iraq must decide to "open up and to disarm." Boucher also said the U.S. continues to consult with U.N. Security Council partners on the text of a draft resolution on weapons inspections in Iraq. He was speaking at the regular State Department noon briefing.
