Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

Iraq messages & the UNSC
By Yaqoub Abouna
In the thick of Anglo-American warplane's daily air raids on the southern and northern sectors of Iraq and the ever thickening Zionist war scale onslaughts on the Palestinian cities, villages and people and while Anglo-American threats to Iraq continue and intensify, Iraq, out of a real desire for negotiation and peaceful resolution of outstanding differences, addressed on August first a bona fide message to the UN secretary General. Then on August 5th the speaker of the Iraqi National Assembly addressed another bona fide message, this time to the US Congress.

In the message to the UN Secretary General Iraq invited the chief and members of the arms monitory commission to visit Baghdad for open, candid discussion and reviewal of all that has been done, and what might be remaining, if any, to be done in the way of mass destruction weaponry since 1991. Except in America and Britain, this sincere inviting message was actually hailed with great relief and welcome all over the world as the much-awaited step. It was a fresh and responsive initiative by Iraq truly expressive of Iraq's keen desire for the settlement of disputes in quiet and amicable dialogue free of all argument and threats of violence. Contrary to all expectations the message was rejected outright by both the US and Britain and both cast doubts on the genuinness of Iraq's honest intentions and even questioned the utility of any such discussions.

As if anticipating such a move by Iraq, the Anglo-American-Zionist propaganda machine immediately launched its counter-scenario and unleashed some mythical, preposterous tales and stories, which from their tenor appeared to have been already, concocted some time ago. But, nevertheless, the Iraqi invitation to visit Baghdad really shattered are of the chief factor feeding and underlying the claims and accusations of the said propaganda machine in its campaign against Iraq. It bankrupted both that propaganda machine and its Anglo-American-Zionist operators belied their already false pleas and thwarted their incredible per se fables.

And to further disprove the vain, futile Anglo-American-Zionist allegations and non-sensical flimflam, the speaker of the Iraqi National Assembly, Dr. Saadoon Hummadi addressed on August 5th his message to the US Congress, i.e., both its Senate and House of representatives. In his message Dr. Hammadi, quite calmly and steadfastly, totally unperturbed by the allegations and threats of violence bombarded against Iraq, invites both speakers or chiefs of the Senate and the House of representatives to visit Iraq and for a whole three weeks, not only by themselves, but along with any number of members of both their houses and together with any experts they choose in chemical, biological, nuclear etc. fields and not only for dialogue but also for actual search and investigation in all the places and locations which the American administration believes Iraq has contributed weaponry in hiding and producing or making ready to produce.

Now what more can Iraq offer or say over and search for yourselves? This indeed is an unmissable opportunity to find out to their full satisfaction if the American administration does really have any authentic information that is causing it to cast its doubts of Iraq sincerity and fling its atrocious charges and accusations against it. But, if, as is the real truth, the information the US administration claims to be holding is merely bogus claims and tittle-tattle, or just trumped up suspicion to justify its hostile stand and attitude, then it should behoove to reexamine its conscience and get rid of all the doubts that seem to prepossess it and forbear any action that it in the result regret and hate to have committed.

If the Anglo-Americans do have real cause for doubting Iraq's sincerity and Iraq's assertions that it is completely void of any mass destruction weapons, then this is a golden opportunity for them to come over and satisfy themselves one way or the other. This invitation by Iraq's National Assembly is a call to ascertain the truth of the matter on real, practical ground instead of just entertaining unverified, fanciful suspicions or relying on trumped up claims. Area truth seeker will not indeed let slip an opportunity to find out for certain once and for all time.
