Text: U.S. Applauds Selection of Ekeus to Head Iraq Inspection Commission
(Foley: Ekeus has ably served in efforts to disarm Iraq) (240) "We applaud the decision today by the United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan to select Ambassador Rolf Ekeus of Sweden as his nominee to be Executive Chairman of the UN Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC)," State Department Deputy Spokesman James Foley said January 17. "We support Ambassador Ekeus, who, in the past, has ably served the international community in its efforts to disarm Iraq," Foley said.
