U.S. aircraft attack Iraqi air defense sites
Operation Northern Watch 30 January 1999 14:08
INCIRLIK AIR BASE, TURKEY -- On January 30 at approximately 3 p.m. Iraqi time, coalition aircraft were targeted by Iraqi radars near Mosul while conducting routine enforcement of the Northern no-fly zone.
A U.S. Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle responded in self defense by launching an AGM-130 at the radar site.
Also in self defense, two F-15Es dropped two GBU-12 precision-guided munitions at the same radar site, on the actual missile launchers.
Damage to Iraqi forces is currently being assessed.
Coalition forces assigned to Operation Northern Watch (ONW) continue to enforce the northern no-fly zone.
