State Department Acting Spokesman Philip Reeker briefed.
U.S. SUPPORTS UN APPROVAL OF IRAQI OIL DONATIONS TO TURKEY
The United States supports the United Nations Sanctions Committee's
decision to approve Iraq's offer to donate oil to Turkey's earthquake
victims, Reeker said.
On August 31, the Sanctions Committee agreed in principle to the
humanitarian donation of Iraqi oil to Turkish earthquake victims
within the framework of sanctions against Iraq. The Committee is
currently drafting its notification to the United Nations, Reeker
said.
As of September 1, U.S. Government assistance to Turkey's earthquake
victims comes to $10,676,570, according to figures provided by the
U.S. Agency for International Development.
