MACDILL AFB, FL - At approximately 9:45 a.m. Eastern Standard Time today, U.S. Air Force F-16 "Fighting Falcon," and, U.S. Navy F/A-18 "Hornet" and F-14 "Tomcat" aircraft enforcing the Southern No-Fly Zone struck two Iraqi military radar sites in Southern Iraq using precision guided munitions in response to Iraqi surface-to-air missile fire directed at coalition aircraft.
The strikes were conducted approximately 170 miles south of Baghdad near Al Amarah and 150 miles southeast of Baghdad in the vicinity of As Samawah.
Battle damage assessment is ongoing and there were no coalition aircraft damaged during the incident.
