Religious Leaders, Aide Workers, Students and Peace Activists Demand an End
to Economic Sanctions against Iraq
Press Conference to Highlight National Day of Action and Student Week of
Action
PRESS ADVISORY : FOR APRIL 27, 1999
CONTACT: Gordon Clark at Peace Action

Convinced that the U.N.-imposed economic sanctions against Iraq are both
cruel and illegal, religious leaders are joining forces with humanitarian
relief workers, students and peace groups to demand that the sanctions be
lifted. Numerous independent reports cite widespread malnutrition, disease
and starvation among the Iraqi population, particularly among the elderly
and young children; up to one and half million Iraqis have already perished
due to the effects of the sanctions, which were imposed over eight years
ago.
The National Day of Action and Student Week of Actions will encompass
demonstrations, press conferences and "post office actions" in dozens of
cities across the country, and over 100 college campuses.
