Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD)

MILITARY FACILITIES HEAVILY DAMAGED IN BAGHDAD AND 
OTHER AREAS FROM  US/UK BOMBING
Iraqi Broadcasting Corporation
ARBIL, Iraq (18 December, 1998): IBC correspondents in different parts 
of Iraq have reported significant damage from US and UK bombing in 
several Iraqi cities.
   The following targets were hit on 17 and/or 18 December:
Baghdad
- In Mansour area, the headquarters of the Iraqi Intelligence Service 
Mukhabarat
- In the Jadriya area, the house of Saddam's daughter Hala, was 
destroyed; the main Presidential Palace complex was hit.
- Hai Al Tashriya area, which contains the headquarters of the Special 
Security Organisation, was hit on both days and sustained heavy damage.
- In Kadimiya the headquarters of Military Intelligence sustained heavy 
damage.
- In Radwaniya, the headquarters of the Special Republican Guard was 
hit, as well as SRG bases in Amariya and Hai Al Jihad.
- The Industrial City, near Baghdad, was hit. 
- Rashid Airbase was hit.
- In the Al Taji Camp (20 km north of Baghdad) there was heavy damage.  
13 different targets in the Camp were hit. This area contains several 
weapons of mass destruction facilities, units of the Republican Guard, 
and the main repair shops of the Iraqi Army Armoured Corps.
- The Baath Party Academy in Al Zeitoun Street was damaged.
- A missile hit a civilian target in Al Karada district.
- All weapons of mass destruction factories south, southwest and 
southeast (especially Mahmoudia and Al Yousefia) were hit in the second 
raid on Thursday night.
- Rashidiya, the main base of the Northern Corps of the Republican 
Guard.  Weapons of mass destruction facilities in this area were also 
hit.	
- Al Hasouwa Camp (west of Baghdad), a Republican Guard base Al 
Suwewira, the main base of the Southern Corps of the Republican Guard, 
were both hit.
- 10 offices of the Mukhabarat, in different areas of Baghdad, were hit.
Tikrit
-  The main grain silo in Tikrit was destroyed.
-  Al Bakr Airbase was hit.
-  Air defense facilities, including radars and SAM missiles in Tikrit, 
Bayji and Samarra were hit and destroyed.
-  Jebel Makhoul (40 km north of Tikrit), a site which contains nuclear 
and chemical facilities, a headquarters of the Special Republican Guard, 
and a palace of Saddam, was hit.
- The Iraqi Army Tank Training Ground north of Tikrit was hit.
Mosul
-  Al Gayar Airbase, where Mirage aircraft are based was hit.
-  The headquarters of the Fifth Corps of the Iraqi Army in Al Salamiya 
district was hit.
-  Al-Adnaniya, the HQ of the Seventh Division of the Iraqi Army was 
hit.
-  Al-Hamidaniya, the HQ of the Baghdad Division of the Republican Guard 
was hit.
-  Aski Mosul which contains military facilities was hit.
Western Iraq
- Al Walid Airbase (250 km NW of Baghdad) near Baghdadi town and Tahmouz 
Airbase near Habaniyya were hit.
   Additionally, in Al Thawra and Al-Habibiya districts of Baghdad, 
there were public disturbances which were put down by Special Republican 
Guards.
   The Iraqi regime has closed all border crossings to all traffic, 
except diplomatic traffic.   At least 2,000 Turkish tanker trucks, 
engaged in sanctions-busting oil trade, are trapped at the Iraqi-Turkish 
border. The regime has stopped all oil deliveries to Iraqi Kurdistan, 
where the price of fuel has increased seven-fold in the last five days.
