SECRETARY-GENERAL AND DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER OF IRAQ AGREE TO CONTINUE PROCESS OF DIALOGUE
19981007The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for Secretary- General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General met with the Deputy Prime Minister of Iraq to follow up the discussions that have taken place over the last 10 days amongst the Iraqi delegation, the President and members of the Security Council, and the Secretary-General.
The meeting took place in a constructive atmosphere. Both sides agreed that the process of dialogue would continue. The Deputy Prime Minister assured the Secretary-General that Iraq is prepared to work with the United Nations in a serious and professional manner to resolve the present situation and to facilitate a comprehensive review of the problem.
The Deputy Prime Minister will report to his leadership in Baghdad and revert to the Secretary-General.
