CLINTON BACKS BUSH DECISION TO HIT IRAQI PLANT
(Text: President-elect's statement) (160)
Washington -- President-elect Clinton says that President Bush's decision
to order a missile attack on an Iraqi nuclear facility in response to
Saddam Hussein's continuing refusal to respect U.N. Security Council
resolutions is "an appropriate and forceful response."
He said that the outgoing and incoming administrations agree that Iraq must
abide by the resolutions.
Clinton made the statement shortly after arriving in Washington for events
that will culminate in his assuming the presidency January 20.
Following is the text of the president-elect's statement.

Saddam Hussein's continuing provocation has been met by appropriate and
forceful response. I fully support President Bush's actions. Saddam
Hussein should be very clear in understanding that the current and the next
administration are in complete agreement on the necessity of his fully
complying with all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
