PUBLIC SUPPORTS USE OF FORCE TO GET IRAQI COMPLIANCE
(American Polls) (340) Washington -- Two-thirds of the American public would support U.S. military action to force Iraq to comply with U.N. cease-fire resolutions, recent opinion polling indicates. And support for military action, if necessary, to oust Saddam Hussein from power now also stands close to two-thirds, considerably higher than a year ago.
TWO-THIRDS SUPPORT MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAQ Three differently-worded national polls taken during the past month concur in showing that about two-thirds of the American public (between 64 and 70 percent) approve using force to compel Iraqi compliance with the cease-fire terms.
CBS/NYTimes (August 11-14): "If Iraq fails to comply with the terms of the cease-fire in the Middle East, should the United States take military action against Iraq, or not?"

A Boston Globe/KRC poll (August 3-5) found a 66-22 percent majority approved "the U.S. taking action to remove Saddam Hussein from leadership in Iraq."
