General Scowcroft met recently with a former official of a previous administration in which that official relayed ideas concerning the Persian Gulf situation. The administration has received many such proposals and ideas, as it does at any time during a crisis, from various individuals. There was nothing in this particular proposal that merited its pursuit. As is customary, at the time of this particular message, General Scowcroft informed Secretary Baker of the suggestions he had received. NNNN
