Iran to push demands in E3 talks; Europe at fault over nuclear deal collapse: Tehran

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei says Iran will press its demands in upcoming talks with the E3, as the European powers are in no position to make demands due to their failure to uphold the 2015 nuclear agreement after US withdrawal.

Speaking at his weekly press conference in Tehran on Monday, Baghaei briefed the reporters on the upcoming talks between Iran and the European trio (France, Germany, and Britain), saying the talks will focus on lifting sanctions and nuclear disputes.

The difference is that this time Iran "will seriously raise its demands," he said, adding that European countries must be held accountable for the stance they took during the US-Israeli aggression against Iran.

"These three countries, as members of the JCPOA [The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action] and parties that unanimously accepted Security Council Resolution 2231, had legal and moral responsibilities to condemn these aggressions; something that unfortunately was not achieved," he emphasized.

According to Baghaei, some of these countries "even supported the Zionist regime and the United States, by justifying their crimes."

"The European parties must be held accountable for these behaviors," he noted.

On June 13, Israel launched a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression against Iran, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and killing civilians.

On June 22, the United States also entered the war and bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, in a clear violation of international law and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Tehran to host trilateral Iran-Russia-China meeting

Regarding the issue of Snapback, Baghaei said, "We have had good consultations with [Russia and China] over the past year," adding that a trilateral meeting between Iran, Russia, and China will be held in Tehran on Tuesday.

He added that it will be "a meeting at the level of general managers, focusing on discussions on nuclear issues, which naturally will also include the return of sanctions."

"Therefore, we are in continuous interaction and consultation with these countries so that we can either prevent this situation from occurring or minimize its possible consequences," he said underscoring that "from a legal, logical, moral and political perspective, there is no basis or justifiable reason for the return of sanctions that have been lifted under the JCPOA."

The snapback mechanism was embedded in UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the JCPOA. It allows any one party to the deal to trigger a process that restores all previous UN sanctions on Iran—which were lifted under the accord—if Iran is found to be in "significant" breach of its obligations.

E3 lacks any justification for invoking 2231 resolution

"The European countries that are members of the JCPOA have no moral, political, or logical justification for using a resolution that they created as the basis for its non-implementation to reinstate sanctions," the Iranian diplomat said.

He underscored that the European parties themselves "are in the position of the accused due to their negligence and fault in fulfilling their obligations under the JCPOA."

He noted that the European countries are using this tool to threaten Iran.

He added that should this threat materialize, it would demonstrate that European states no longer view themselves as relevant actors in the Iranian nuclear negotiations. Such a move would effectively marginalize their own role in this critical diplomatic process.

Claims of Iran accepting below 1% enrichment false

In response to a question on the former US Secretary of State's claims regarding Iran's agreement to enrichment below one percent, Baghaei said that "the purpose of such statements should be asked from them, what is their intention, but there was no such thing."

Anthony Blinken claimed in an interview with CNN, before the US-Israeli aggression against Iran, that Tehran had allegedly presented a series of proposals to European officials — including reducing uranium enrichment to below one percent and opening talks on its ballistic missile program.

Larijani carried message on regional, intl. developments to Putin

Pointing to Ali Larijani's visit to Moscow and his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Baghaei stated that Larijani "carried the message and broad vision of the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding regional developments, international developments, and bilateral relations."

He added that Larijani had a very good meeting with Putin where they discussed "a diverse range of topics, especially bilateral relations and regional issues following the developments of the last three to four weeks."
