When asked for comments on media report that the Iranian foreign ministry announced earlier that Iran, France, Germany, and the UK will hold talks on the Iranian nuclear issue in Istanbul on Friday at the level of deputy foreign ministers, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the Iranian nuclear issue bears on the peace and security of the Middle East and the international nuclear non-proliferation regime.

China always advocates resolving the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully through political and diplomatic means. This is the only right way forward, Guo said. "We call on relevant parties to work in the same direction for bringing the issue back to the track of political settlement," he said.

Iran, Britain, France and Germany will hold nuclear talks in Istanbul on Friday, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson says on Monday, Reuters reported. "The meeting between Iran, Britain, France and Germany will take place at the deputy foreign minister level," Esmaeil Baghaei is quoted by Iranian state media as saying.

The talks scheduled for Friday come after foreign ministers of the three European countries, as well as the European Union's foreign policy chief, held their first call on Thursday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi since Israel and the US attacked Iranian nuclear facilities a month ago, per Reuters.

On Monday, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu exchanged views on the Iran nuclear issue with Frédéric Mondoloni, Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry, during a phone conversation at the latter's request.

Ma emphasized the need to resolve the Iran nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means, urging all parties to resume dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible to prevent escalation of the situation. "The right of Iran to peacefully utilize nuclear energy should be guaranteed. China is willing to continue playing a positive and constructive role in this regard," Ma said.
