Russia calls for diplomatic solution to Iranian nuclear issue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, has stressed the importance of resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through political and diplomatic means.
Lavrov made the remarks while meeting with Araqchi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (S.C.O.) summit in Tianjin, China on Monday.
The two top diplomats exchanged views on issues of common interest, as well as regional and international developments. "We had the opportunity to discuss some of the developments that are taking place rapidly," Lavrov was shown in a video released in the first minutes of the meeting.
During the talks, the Russian side once again emphasized that the crisis surrounding Iran's peaceful nuclear program can be resolved solely through political and diplomatic means, in accordance with international law.
The Iranian and Russian foreign ministers last met on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Brazil, following the unprovoked war launched by the Israeli regime and the United States against the Islamic Republic.
The 25th ministerial meeting of the S.C.O. began on Tuesday in the Chinese port city of Tianjin.
The main goal of the 2-day gathering is to review the latest political, security, and economic developments in the region and coordinate the upcoming S.C.O. summit, which is scheduled to be held in Tianjin later this year.
