Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says "unlawful" acts of aggression by the Israeli regime and the United States against the Islamic Republic constituted a gross violation of the United Nations Charter and were a blow to diplomacy.
Araghchi made the remark in a meeting with Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on the sidelines of the 17th summit of the BRICS group of emerging economies in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Sunday.
He said the US-Israeli strikes were an "unprecedented assault on the nuclear non-proliferation regime and the foundation of diplomacy" which would bear serious repercussions for regional peace and security.
The top Iranian diplomat also hailed Brazil's "firm and principled" stance in condemnation of the military aggression.
Araghchi emphasized that the impunity granted to Israel and the full support of the US and some European countries for the regime are the root causes of the continuation and expansion of its warmongering policies.
He said all governments are legally and morally bound to put an end to the Israeli crimes against the Palestinians and its acts of aggression against regional nations.
The Israeli regime launched a blatant and unprovoked act of aggression against Iran on June 13, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders and nuclear scientists in addition to civilians.
On June 22, the United States officially joined Israel's war of aggression against Iran by launching attacks on three nuclear facilities in the country in violation of the United Nations Charter and the Non-Proliferation Treaty.
On June 24, the Israeli regime, isolated and abandoned, declared a unilateral halt to its aggression, announced on its behalf by US President Donald Trump.
The Brazilian foreign minister, for his part, said his country strongly condemned the military aggression against Iran's territorial integrity and national sovereignty, particularly its peaceful nuclear facilities.
Vieira added that the UN Security Council is responsible for safeguarding international peace and security.
Iran resolved to hold aggressors accountable: Araghchi
In a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Sunday, Araghchi expressed Iran's firm determination to defend the country assertively and to hold the aggressors accountable.
The Iranian foreign minister added that the US and Israeli aggression was a severe blow to the UN Charter objectives, diplomacy and the NPT.
For his part, Lavrov stressed the need to adopt the necessary strategies to prevent an escalation of tension and insecurity in the region and expressed his country's readiness to provide any help in this regard.
Iran, Turkey FMs urge end to genocide in Palestine
In a meeting on Sunday, the Iranian foreign minister and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan stressed the importance of taking urgent action to halt the genocide in occupied Palestine, hold the Israeli regime accountable and punish it for committing heinous crimes.
Araghchi and Fidan also discussed the latest developments in West Asia following the Israeli-US aggression against the Islamic Republic.
The Iranian foreign minister also met with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
The BRICS group of fast-developing economies promotes a multipolar world order and is often seen as an alternative to Western economic and political hegemony. It comprises almost 46 percent of the global population, 36 percent of the world's gross domestic product (GDP) and 25 percent of the global trade measured in terms of exports.
